The backstory
Ana spent years working in a traditional high street jewelry store. It was a front-row seat to an industry that felt increasingly disconnected from the women it actually served.
Daily, she saw the same pattern: women coming in to treat themselves, only to be met with four-figure price tags that were largely inflated by brand names and massive retail markups. But the real issue wasn't just the price - it was the performance. Ana watched as customers brought back "luxury" gold-plated pieces that had tarnished or worn down after just a few months of normal wear.
She realized that most people couldn't tell the difference between a solid gold band and a high-quality PVD-coated piece. The irony? The PVD pieces, built on stainless steel, were actually more durable, water-resistant, and suited for a busy life. Yet, the industry continued to push fragile, overpriced items as the only way to feel "elegant."
How it all started
Gemma Velvet started because the math didn't add up. Ana believed that elegance shouldn't require a "luxury tax" that strips women of their hard-earned income just to feel sophisticated. She wanted to offer the same aesthetic as those high-end boutiques without the fragility or the unnecessary markups.
This brand was born out of a desire to shift that narrative. Our pieces are designed for women living real lives - women who move, work, travel, create, and reinvent themselves. Jewelry that doesn't ask you to fit into an image, but adapts to you.
We don't believe femininity is a performance or something you need "permission" to display. It's simply presence. It's confidence without explanation.
